Some journeys start with a clear roadmap, while others unfold through exploration, curiosity, and perseverance. For Elyssa Welch, the path to entrepreneurship was shaped by creativity, determination, and the unwavering support of her community.
A 2019 graduate of Center High School, Elyssa transformed her love for art into a thriving business. Alongside her mother, Wyndi, she runs Alchemy Beauty Lounge, a studio in Nacogdoches specializing in permanent makeup (PMU) and tooth gems. Their work can be found on Instagram at @nacalchemylounge.
“Being able to turn a hobby like art into a profession is so amazing,” she shares. Elyssa has earned certifications in Nano brows and tooth gems and is currently working on obtaining a special license to expand into tattooing. Beyond the technical skills, her biggest achievement has been taking control of her career—no longer working exhausting night shifts and finally dedicating time to what she loves.
Like any new business owner, she faced the challenge of navigating licensing and regulatory requirements for the services she wanted to offer. However, these technical hurdles shed light on the most important aspect of entrepreneurship—mindset. Elyssa emphasizes that success isn’t just about having the right resources—it’s also about being willing to learn, adapt, and keep going even when things feel uncertain.
Much of her progress is credited to the encouragement of family and friends. Although now based in Nacogdoches, she still feels the overwhelming support from her hometown of Center, Texas. “I didn’t fully understand the strength of community until going down this path,” she explains. Even as someone who has always struggled with anxiety, the kind messages from friends and supporters have continually reassured her that she’s on the right path.
For those still finding their way, she offers this advice:
“It’s completely normal if you have no clue what to do in life! My best advice would be to pick up as many hobbies as possible. If you’re interested in it, look it up & learn about it. Everything is online or around you. Never let failure be a deterrence—it teaches you what to pay attention to.”
Her dreams continue to evolve daily, with plans to one day teach PMU and tattooing classes, and expand her artistic ventures further. No matter where the journey takes her, one thing is certain—she will continue exploring new opportunities.
Elyssa’s story is a testament to the power of passion, persistence, and community. From Center to Nacogdoches, she proves that dreams can become reality with the right mix of creativity and determination.
